This book is exactly what it says - a set of photocopiable activities for use with the ACE Spelling Dictionary. If you don't use the ACE system, don't purchase this - using it does rely heavily on fully understanding the spelling system that the ACE dictionary uses. If you do use ACE, purchasing this will possibly revitalise your use of it. There's nothing here that you probably wouldn't have thought of yourself as an activity, but it's nice to have the work done for you.
This is a good resource, I am a parent of a dyslexic child (year 6) not a teacher. We bought it at the same time as the ACE Spelling Dictionary to learn how to use the dictionary but it turns out that the dictionary is self contained and has lessons at the start of it which are extremely similar to the activities at the beginning of this book i.e. you do not need this book to become efficient at using the dictionary. Having said that, this book contains 100+ pages of spelling activities which will widen vocabulary and get children to think about spelling. We have not used many of them yet as time has not permitted but they look very useful and not too hard. I believe they go to quite a high KS2 level, I certainly think my year 6 child would be helped by doing them but also not find them too hard.
Overall you can become efficient at using the excellent ACE dictionary without this. You must have a copy of the dictionary to do these activities. The activities are good spelling practice and this is better than most spelling activity books available.
