I've enjoyed Rees-Jones' work for a long time because it is intelligent and sensitive, always thoughtful and fresh. This is quite simply her best book to date. She works through her grief for her husband, poet Michael Murphy, through a range of brave but carefully crafted poems in different personae. There is also a delicacy and subtlety at work here, her interest in art and artefacts of beauty is tactile and delicious. Ultimately the poems are celebratory even though some of them come from a dark place, they bring a radiancy to the reader which remains long after the collection has been read. This book is currently shortlisted for a T.S. Eliot Award. It richly deserves to be on that shortlist - tender, loving and beautiful poetry like this is compelling.

This is a slim volume so the 'price per poem' is costly. It is very good poetry however and well worth a look.

A first-rate collection. Accessible, human, deeply felt, skilled in the art, clear, moving. Up for many prizes & rightly so.
