Rosemarie Jarski does not seem capable of compiling a disappointing collection of wit. I now have 6 or more of her excellent 'humour' anthologies, and 'Wisecracks - Great Lines From The Classic Hollywood Movies' is up there among the best, with such as:-

"There's a name for you ladies, but it isn't used in high society - outside of a kennel." (Joan Crawford 'The Women' 1939)

"Some weasel took the cork out of my lunch." (W C Field 'You Can't Cheat An Honest Man' 1939)

"I got two rules I always stick to when I'm out visitin'. Keep away from couches, and stay on your feet." (Jean Harlow 'Hold That Man' 1933)

.......and there are hundreds more.

Virtually all of the quotes are from pre 1970 films referred to by the compiler as 'Classic' which is presumably another word for 'old'. Ms Jarski justifies the lack of 'quips' from post 1970 films by arguing that before the more lax censorship regimes came about in the late 60's, anything a tad risqué or bawdy had to be conveyed in words and not visually. Surely, however, there must be enough material in more recent films to produce an anthology of 'Wisecracks Two - Great Lines From Modern Movies.' or perhaps this has already been done?

This book is great. If you have ever been at a dinner party, listening and laughing with all the rest, then this is the book that could save you from the embarassing moment when you cannot think of a witty retort (or at least passable.) Plagiarise this book to your heart's content, and you'll never be stuck for things to say. Just don't buy it for anybody else, or your secrets will be revealed. The only moan I have is that this book focuses on Hollywood movies only, with not quite enough quips from the general "scene". But it's a good buy, and ideal if you need a laugh. Also check out "Hollywood Wit" by the same author.
