This is a really well produced volume at a remarkably good price. The quality of the paper, the text and the valuable annotated comments have made the reading of this poet's work a real delight. He was new to me but his work, with its surface simplicity and depth of feeling and observation, is of a high order. It will be a long term pleasure to have the volume at my bedside.

I've loved the poetry of Edward Thomas since the first time I read him.

This annotated version provides lots of interesting insights on many of the poems, including extensive quotes from relevant previous notes and writings. The poems are also complete and in chronological order which is also extremely interesting and useful - if you'd like to get to know this remarkable body of work

Edna Longley's new edition of Edward Thomas's poetry is a joy - generous in every way, in size, elegant Paul Nash cover(they were wartime friends) and above all is the full and convincing commentary on poems, especially those which show Thomas's dialectical working-out of dilemmas and decisions. Her exploration of the background to the poems in prose writing, letters and notebooks creates an intriguing picture of this complex, gifted writer whose life was so sadly cut short just two years after he began writing poetry.

This book not only has all of his poems in authorial order, but also has detailed notes to go with each poem. The notes contained not only allow you to understand the poem at a higher level of detail but also informs you of the origin and creation of the poem. The biography and notes are written with clarity and are easy to follow. This is an excellent purchase for those studying Edward Thomas at A level and above.

Having been born and bred a short distance from his former homes I must confess bias, however this is a fine collection of poems.
Not all are war poetry.

As with all Bloodaxe publications, this was excellent. The notes for each of the poems were so detailed.
