Excellent guide to lovely well signposted walks that can be used as a sequence or as circular walks
Money well spent as led us to do more enjoyable walks
A nice length for a days walk

This is the latest guidebook to the HoEW and a must for anybody thinking of walking this fine route. It provides good background information on the places you pass through and provides detailed information on the particular route. It also contains good quality large scale maps that are easy to understand and follow.

A useful feature is that in contains details of a return route for virtually every section so that you can do the walk as a series of circular walks (Useful if you only have one car) rather than as linear walks (which require 2 cars or resorting to public transport)

We're planning to walk the Heart of England Way in 2013 for our local hospice. Fortunately we decided to walk from north to south, which is the only way the main route is described in this book. The maps also show return routes in the opposite direction, and the waymarking also works from south to north. The book seems to be pretty well up to date, mentioning the threat from High Speed 2. It's easy to find your way round the book, and is of (large) pocketable size.

I've started this walk from Milford and am now in Shustoke and all the maps and directions have been good. There have been some changes to the route since it has been published one where you cross over the new A5 near Lichfield and another just before Shustoke where they have stopped you crossing the railway line.
Overall it is a very good guide and am enjoying the walk. I'm doing the walk by parking my car at the start of a section then completing 2 to 3 section at a time. I then use the bus service to return to my car.

The Heart of England Way is not as well known as some other long distance paths but setting out from Cannock Chase through Shakespeare Country to the Cotswolds is proving delightful. The guide, supplemented by OS maps and information from Traveline is making it possible to walk the Way in daily stages. It really is a lovely walk and strongly recommended for those who think the West Midlands is full of industry and little else. (By the way I am not from the Midlands)
