Cornwell At Her Best - And Scarpetta At Her Most Likeable
on 27 January 2014
I have always been a loyal admirer of Partricia Cornwell even when the series dipped for a time. However, I have never really liked Kay Scarpetta! I have always found her decidedly self-righteous and a tad pompous. That is not though a criticism of Cornwell - I have always taken it as part of the Scarpetta character and that someone of her gifts, vocation and up-bringing might well be like that. However, in Dust one sees a much more reflective and sympathetic Kay - someone who is flawed, as we all are; someone who has doubts - as we all do. Somehow, she seems even more able for so being.
