most of the walks are car-friendly (you can catch a train 1 or 2 stops back to the start)
the book's website, www.walkingclub.org.uk/book_1 has
- OS maps you can print,
- photos, videos
- updates (e.g. lunch pub on the Gomshall to Guildford walk has closed)
there is also a volume 2 with 30 walks

What would my weekends look like without this book??? I feel this is a must have for every Londoner! I have done 6-7 walks from this book so far, and have not once been disappointed. The choice of the walks is optimal for a day trip from London. The advice about train times and the hike lengths are always accurate, and the description of the walks is very detailed. I would have liked more detailed maps though (I recently discovered a pathfinder guide for another region of Britain, which has much better maps) - but anyways, the descriptions are detailed enough so that it's almost impossible to get lost.

I also like that the book covers a variety of landscapes - from coast walk to countryside to lake walks, castle walks, river walks... you'll always find something that interests you.

BTW, an additional plus is the website that goes with the book, there are some updates and also GPS tracking available for download, which I always use ever since I've discovered it.

If you like walking within fairly reach of London, you will find this book and its accompanying volume inspiring. It sets out walks in considerable detail and it is updated from time to time.

I do like this book. I am a very keen walker and must say this book has only come out a few times. Most of the walks are very long and not very detailed maps.

I've only been on one of the walks so far but it was very nice and the directions were easy to follow. Looking forward to going on more of them.

I really like how each walk is accessible by public transport. There are some really nice walk suggestions. My only problem with this book and the other volume are the maps - if you take a wrong turn or the directions don't quite match up, you can easily lose your way and it's sometimes hard to find the right track you're supposed to be on. Probably best to get an OS map of the area you're going to as well.
