I have some previous Titchmarsh books and this one lacks his usual friendly, down-to-earth tone. It made me feel it was ghost-written or cobbled together by a team of garden writers instead.
Much general guidance is duplicated in numerous basic gardening manuals - what I wanted was more information about each type of shrub, with a comprehensive range of varieties. It is unclear why certain named varieties are included, while others (of the same shrub) - which may be reliable and more readily available - are excluded.
I am so disappointed I shall take this to the charity shop and stick with my old guides - Hillier, RHS and even good old "Expert" Dr Hessayon!
