A really smashing book. Not only do we get a potted history of football but a great collection of postcards and images from the earliest days. For instance, there is a chapter on women's football showing amongst others a photo of the wonderfully named Nellie Honeyball captain of the British Ladies Football team in 1894. In 1920 the Dick Kerr ladies played St Helens ladies at Goodison Park before a crowd of 53,000 putting the modern game somewhat in the shade. This is a book you can dip into again and again. Don't miss it.
