That's it.
That's the way the "MAKING OF" books are meant to be made:
Sturdy, well packed designed to last and to allow repeated wiewing without the need of special lifting and displaying
equipment,(that is, less than 3kg).
Comprehensive, well ilustrated, worth the repeated wiewing not only for reference, but for just enjoying it.
Cheap,I don't mean affordable,I mean cheap,(in this days everything less than 40 is worth mentioning).
While not as extense as the mammoth books on Star wars, this (I hope )new series of books promises to give at last
a serious status to the Making of.... genre.
The next is expected to be about Star Trek....but what about the indiana Jones films,Blade Runner,Fifth Element,
Terminator....etc,all those films we want to kow things about, but dont't have the coffe table.
Defintely recommended.

High quality hardback in a box with lots of pull outs, bit gimmicky maybe but if you're a fan of the film and want an insight into the amazing work of the artists and technicians that worked on one of the best Sci-Fi films ever made, then you won't go wrong with this book. That said if you are a fan of the film you'll probably know a lot about the development of the film already, but it's still a great book obviously produced by people who are themselves fans of the film.

I eagerly purchased this as i am a huge fan of the film and noted the rave review this book received in a well known film magazine. It turns out however that the book`s author is a previous editor of said magazine so that explains the perhaps sycophantic review. Although i applaud his good taste this is just a lazy rehash of material previously published elsewhere with no real contemporary input. A wasted opportunity that could have had new interviews with key figures or more fully explored aspects that obsessives would love such as the film`s original 3 hour rough cut or the rejected/unused sections of Jerry Goldsmith`musical score.
I also don`t think it`s a well designed book as it`s rather stiff and heavy and in a sense has to be handled carefully. The sheer weight of the books hardback casing means you have to literally `cradle` it when reading as it would otherwise just flop open and weaken its binding.
It`s also a poor relation to similar publications which like this one enclose facsimiles of related items. Similar books are often more sensibly presented in boxes or cases with separately enclosed items of much better quality. Unfortunately the items enclosed in this book are housed in unattractive tracing paper type pouches within the pages of the book. They are also for the most part folded up which spoils their look somewhat. The worst example is the `Nostromo` crew badge which is a lousy peel off sticker instead of an embroidered badge.
The definitive book on this remarkable film has yet to be written

Essential for ALIEN fans still. it covers the first movie only, and has updated drawings and sketches from the era with quite a lot of rework, making them somewhat less authentic, more collectable. Presentation has lots of scribbly lines all over the pages that are not part of anything ALIEN-ish, just added on for some reason, spoiling the presentation. Text has many additional, interesting bits from the original, (which I have from 1979 era). Poster history interesting too. Worth adding to any Sci_Fi Movie book collection.

Fantastic book. A well researched article and a perfect companion to the film. A must have for any fan of Ridley Scott's masterpiece.

Comprehensive overview of a genre-defining movie. This lavish package gives a terrific insight into the making of Ridley Scott's masterpiece.
Great for Alien 'anoraks' but also enough to keep casual browsers occupied.

The book by itself is excellent.
Of course we have to forget the endless grammar mistakes and misspellings (Veronica Cartwright is now Veronica Cartright (twice) and probably they mistaken John Hurt for Ian Holm, since in the next sentence they make reference to Ash as another character (page 11 and 13)..etc)

But if you are the owner of one of the best BluRay box sets ever released : The Alien Anthology, this books add almost nothing to all your knowledge on the back stages. Is not even close to collect all the info regarding the movie. Not even half.

I did liked the copies of Scott's Storyboards, yet there were only 4 scenes (Scott said he almost storyboarded the whole movie, they could have at least add more of those)

I did not like the Space Jockey poster. Since its folded in 4 parts, the poster is useless for display since it has white marks of the folding. They could have added a smaller presentation or find a way to better protect it (for example, roll it and have it inside a tube on the book's rim...at least the visual will remain intact)

Overall, if you never saw any Alien documentary, the book is a must have.
Still, I recommend you buy the Alien Anthology DVD. The extras are as amazing as the movie itself!!

Arrived within a few days of ordering. When you see the quality of this book I was amazed at the low price I had paid for it! After that, what else can you ask for. Topp marks all around.

A great book chronicling the pre-production, production and release of one of the most influential science fiction / horror films of the 20th century.
