Read this, but then read Post-Capitalism
on 20 November 2016
This is an early journalistic analysis of the events of 2011-12. As such it is a great introduction to the structural changes that are happening to the global economy as a result of liberalism, and the problem of how to resist the increasing power of the 1%. It is necessarily incomplete, as we're now four years on and are seeing the emergence of ultra right, nationalist and fascist elements in response to the failure of capitalism, which repeats the history of the 1930s. This requires a new approach to the horizontalist protests discussed in this book. But the book also sets out early thinking about the nature of the next phase in the decline of capitalism, which Mason sets out in Post-Capitalism. Do read that.
