Excellent - Purposely light on text, every page is packed with beautiful photos. Has a good balance of well-known and previously unpublished photos from the Audi, Mercedes, and even Alfa Romeo archives, including several pages of colour photos by Louis Klementaski. Complements other Silver Arrow volumes well, as the photos that re-appear here are often cropped differently and have excellent captions.

This is an extremely well presented and detailed photographic review of the of the Daimler Benz and Auto Union pre-WWII racing, hill climb and record breaking programmes. It has good supporting text on the development of the cars, the key factory personnel involved, the drivers, the opposition and individual synopses of each event entered and the two factorys' results. Most of the photos are of good quality and where they are less than perfect they nevertheless show features or events of significant importance. All photos are succinctly captioned and the quality of the book's production is such that they can be enjoyed many times over - you will often spot details that had passed you by on earlier scrutiny.

Any criticisms? Well yes there are some but in the main they do not detract from the enjoyment of the book. It is a weighty and quite large book so casual reading is not too easy - it is best read seated at a table and is definitely not an ideal volume for reading in bed. On a more serious note, and bearing in mind that I am interested in this period of racing but by no means an expert, there are some textual inaccuracies but these are difficult to avoid completely for any author, historian etc. The most glaring error (which became obvious the minute I opened the volume) is in the captioning for the two end paper photographs. These actually show an Auto-Union at the front and a Mercedes at the rear yet the captioning describes the opposite.

The overall impression, however, is of a well researched and produced book that should be a must for anyone interested in this period of racing. Stump up the money, buy it, and enjoy it many times over. My congratulations to both the author and the publisher.

Auto Union Album is now a reference for all motor racing fans.
This book will have the same faith in the near future.
Fantastic photographs who catch the glorious moments of the Silver Arrows' history.
Hundreds of photo's that make us live the amazing atmosphere that existed on the 1930's racing tracks.
A must have.

If you're into this period of motor racing history then this volume is priceless,in some respects it surpasses Chris Nixon's "Racing The Silver Arrows".I don't feel I can add anything more to my review other than, buy it.

Pritchard really knows his subject - VERY well researched, and this more than holds its own against Chris Nixon's excellent tomes on the subject. The colour photos are very illuminating, especially re Mercedes' different grill colours, etc. and are very rare. A pity that so few have survived, but understandable given that they were taken in the early days of colour photography. A wealth of b/w images, many of them unpublished in other reference works, more than make up for this. My SECOND COPY of this, to replace a damaged original. The book for the serious enthusiast.
