Too much money for too little information
on 2 May 2012
I bought this book as it had good reviews and I am 8 weeks from giving birth. On receiving it I couldn't believe how thin the book was (it is only 71 pages long if you take away the appendix and recommended reading). For the £7+ I paid for this I thought it was totally overpriced.
Also, she refers a few times in the book to not having enough space to do certain subjects justice and refers to an AIMS document which to me is pointless. I didn't want a reference book. I wanted a book with information in it.
She also doesn't explain the theory behind some of her ideas. i.e. she thinks a placenta is fine left until the body rejects it, without having to sever it from the baby at all. When reading other accounts on this, I learn it does carry a risk to the baby but she doesn't go through these or mention the fact there is a risk.
All in all I wasn't impressed and would not recommend this book. There are by far better books out there on practical and spiritual ways to give birth that actually offer advice on techniques that can be used instead of just saying things like "avoid other's negative birth stories". I didn't find it helpful.
