What an enormous disappointment. This CD comes with a small booklet which contains absolutely nothing about Sinhala, but just advertises other products from the company. It is a pity Eurotalk didn't just dedicate a least one page to explaining how their language training system is supposed to work.

As for the CD there are several problems:

1. It can only be run from the CD drive, so it is constantly accessing the CD drive. The noise of the drive often drowns out the speaking of words. Being able to download the whole package to the hard drive would be far preferrable.

2. The dictionary shows words written in Sinhala script and English. If you can't read the sinhala script it is utterly useless (as this is a course for beginners it is not unreasonable to expect that users will not be able to read the 1600+ sinhala characters!). The material includes no explaination of the sinhala 'alphabet'/pronounciation guide.

3. Course offers no logical learning structure. Effectively just a random selection of vocabulary words. Note that the spoken words are presented without the sinhala script making the dictionary even less relevant.

4. Download to ipod is equally useless. The download is easy, but it only downloads sinhala words without english translations. Therefore, the ipod can only be used to review what you have already learnt, rather than be used as a learning tool.

In summary, this a poorly conceived package that provides very poor language tuition. A great disappointment. Not worth the money.

A lot of words taught you would not use, but does teach you the basics. Could focus more on everyday words that tourists would use. But overall it has taught me pronouniation and some basics

Really not impressed. It's a generic Eurotalk pack which doesn't seem to have been specialized at all for the language - in the country vocab section you can't even learn the word for Sri Lanka. There's no information about constructing sentences, but unless you know the written script already this won't make a difference because you won't be able to learn the words properly anyway. Don't buy this. It's not worth it. I've just got eh Lonely Planet phrase book and that seems much more helpful.
