If you have just bought a spot meter, or toying with the idea of getting one, this book may be for you. The author does state you need a spot meter for creative exposure control. So if you are the owner of an incident light meter, like me, the benefit of owning this book seems limited. The zone system features heavily but is well explined. The author provides many insightful photographs with good explainations and on how they are achieved. There are also some film and darkroom tests to improve the technical quality of your photographs. Having said all this don't be put off, it is all very well explained.
Genrally the book is good avoiding the padding offen seen in other photography books like zoom vs prime...yawn!
If anything, this book has opened my mind to the potential of a spot meter.

I'm currently doing an HNC in photography and have had a massive reading list, but this book was the best yet! Easy reading, very explanitary, and basically it does it exactly what it says on the cover. If you like photography at amature level or pro...get this book!

This book offers a lot of practical tests in order to control and manage your exposures for
the results you want. You will use some rolls
of films but you will see the improvement after
that !
