I bought this book with much anticipation but was ultimately very disappointed with the result. What we have here is an apparent second hand review of Shakys life. This book was not authorised by the star and therefore doesnt contain any indepth interviews with Shaky himself about his life. It doesnt contain anything new and his career is glossed over quite quickly. His rise to fame is very briskly dealt with and I felt that his demise from the public eye in the late 1980s and early 1990s got more coverage. The author has an excellent back catalogue of biographies but this was not up to scratch. Given Shakys well documented reserved character and intense wish to keep his family life private and his apparent suspicion of the media it is no surprise that this book is short on fact. The reader gets an account of Shakys life but they dont get to know Shaky as a person and that is the disappointing feature of the book. A character such as Shaky has had a great career and this book fails to give him the credit he deserves. The album/single discography at the back of the book is informative, accurate and well researched though.

No real new news in this book. It is just an ensemble of anecdotes and newspaper stories. No real information about Shaky's youth or family. It doesn't really reveal anything about the singer.

THE CONCERT MAGIC OF SHAKIN' STEVENS

He sang about a Green Door,
and about This Ole House,
Oh Julie was so Satisfied,
that she scared a little mouse!
Turning Away the mouse
sure did - and running into
the Raindrops,
While Shaky sang; 'Give Me
Your Heart Tonight' - on
good old Top Of The Pops.

Shaky had a Love Attack, and
his woman cried; I Might,
While Shaky said; 'You Shake
Me Up' - they'll Tear It Up
tonight.
Shaky did his concert - and
sang; My Cutie Cutie,
He also drank some Pink
Champagne - turning very fruity!

Shaky did the Queen of The
Hop - as he was Rockin' The
Night Away,
He pounced into Shake Rattle
And Roll - and sang it with
Jealousy.
Shaky grabbed the microphone -
and sang about 'Hot Dog' for me,
He sang about Josephine, but
he was loving Marie Marie!

Shaky was in Trouble, and he
had a Love Attack!
Then he sang True Love to an
adoring fan, but she gave him
such a whack!
Shaky was singing Elvis - as he
curled his Lipstick, Powder &
Paint -
But singing Merry Christmas
Everyone - he really felt quite
faint.

Shaky was so Lovestruck, and
also Without Love,
He even sang of a Shotgun
Boogie, but he couldn't get
enough!
Shaky growled through Hey
Mae, because he said; It's Late -
When he drooled on Little
Pigeon - it would seal his
singing fate!

Shaky bopped to Apron
Springs, and pounded to
Shooting Gallery -
He had a love for Vanessa -
and sang his Boppity Bop,
Singing Que Sera, Sera,
he nearly through a strop!
Shaky thought of Mona Lisa -
as he sang his; I'm Knockin'
The stage was his own Sea
Of Love - as he carried on
his boppin!!!!

Shaky growled through; The
Bop Won't Stop - and he
sprang into Diddle I -
He crooned through; A Love
Worth Waiting For,
Then he said goodbye -
as the fans all screamed
for more!!!!
