A "shaky" biography of music star
on 8 November 2005
I bought this book with much anticipation but was ultimately very disappointed with the result. What we have here is an apparent second hand review of Shakys life. This book was not authorised by the star and therefore doesnt contain any indepth interviews with Shaky himself about his life. It doesnt contain anything new and his career is glossed over quite quickly. His rise to fame is very briskly dealt with and I felt that his demise from the public eye in the late 1980s and early 1990s got more coverage. The author has an excellent back catalogue of biographies but this was not up to scratch. Given Shakys well documented reserved character and intense wish to keep his family life private and his apparent suspicion of the media it is no surprise that this book is short on fact. The reader gets an account of Shakys life but they dont get to know Shaky as a person and that is the disappointing feature of the book. A character such as Shaky has had a great career and this book fails to give him the credit he deserves. The album/single discography at the back of the book is informative, accurate and well researched though.
