This compact Venice map/guide was a delight to use. Small enough to stow in even a small handbag or coat pocket, it is formatted in such a clever manner that Venice is laid out sequentially in 6 small fold-out maps. Simple and uncluttered by excess verbosity, each discreet, clear, small map pops out from the book, with suggested highlights or landmarks in small photos around the edge, descriptions below. No flapping with unwieldy maps, and no need to bury ones nose in bulky text in order to know where you are, what you are near, and what you might like to seek out in that quarter. The guide's back pages provide a brilliant map of Venice's Byzantine water transit (Vaporetti) system. If I could have wished for one more fold-out map, it would have been for the outer lagoon islands (Torcello, Burano, Cimitero, Murano, Lido...) but I cannot otherwise detract from this handy, user-friendly gem. I would certainly turn to any of the 50+ guides in this series in future.
