A beautifully written account of the author's experiences with the wildlife and the people involved in the wild places of Zimbabwe; witty and very entertaining, well observed and passionate, understated and fair. If you know anything of southern Africa it will strike a cord and with today's awareness of conservation everyone will pick up the message of the fragility of these truely wild places.

I've read a lot of books written about Zimbabwe, relating to a vast array of topics. This one, without reservation is my favourite.Dick writes with an ironic and self depreciating humour that is pretty rare but quantifies it with a genuine love and devotion to the long suffering wildlife and people of Zimbabwe. If everyone that has ever watched a nature documentary with the pretty animals read this then they would appreciate, to some degree, the issues that exist and help to raise awareness. Well done Dick!
