Saw Mapp and Lucia in the recent BBC TV programme. Really enjoyed that and the books are great, providing more depth and an individual introduction to the characters in the first volume of the two books. This volume covers the period after they get together in Tilling.

A brilliant book for a brilliant price. This volume is a continuation from Volume 1 and contains: Mapp & Lucia, Lucia's Progress, Trouble for Lucia, and these 3 novels were the basis for the excellent TV series that was made a few years ago. Lucia continues to sail through life full of energy & snobbery, and Mapp continues to grind her teeth in rage (while smiling her wolf-like smile) - all accomplished with that politeness which society demands (or else they'd have no more evenings of Bridge or 'po di musica'). Funny, witty, very very enjoyable.... well worth the price.

Got volume one and two for my mother who loved the TV series Mapp And Lucia Collection - The Complete 1st & 2nd Series [DVD]. Her verdict is that they are wonderfully entertaining books and a real treasure. She especially loved the foreword telling her about the background to the books and their basis in real places and people. In her opinion the books are better than the series (as is almost always the case) but she pays tribute to the actors in the TV series in getting the spirit of the characters spot on. She is a very discriminating reader and it was great to find something she likes this much. The only niggle is that the size of the print is a bit small, but given the price and that they include all the Mapp and Lucia books I really couldn't mark them down.

This book, plus volume one, contain all 6 of E.F. Benson's "Mapp and Lucia" novels. E.F. Benson's biting humour and satire make these some of the funniest books ever written. They probably won't be to everyone's taste as they have to be read slowly and savoured for their wit and observation of the two feuding protagonists but are well worth the effort. If you saw the excellent t.v. series with Prunella Scales and Geraldine McEwan as the two ladies in question, you won't be disappointed by these volumes. Incidentally, superb value as well.

after reading the first part which was really funny but sometimes long i thought i would get bored to read another 660 pages about Mapp and Lucia, I was totally wrong...
The first part bringing Mapp and Lucia together is really hilarious, almost unbelievable how people can be so hypocrite and gossiping all the time. The tricks they play on each other are really fantastic, you really laugh a lot with it...
maybe an abrupt end, but overall i really enjoyed both books, in total more than 1200 pages but worth reading!

Thought of as an old-fashioned writer, but human nature changeth not and E.F. Benson has acute perception of its' foibles! Better known since having been televised, but nothing matches the humorous echos of one's own experience in the reading..
