The Phantom of the Opera, book by Gaston Leroux
on 9 December 2013
The Opera Populaire supposedly is based on the Paris Opera House. My only criticism is that Gaston Leroux wrote the book in the first person, instead of telling the story through the words of a fictional character, which attracted a lot of criticism at the time and the book nearly vanished into total obscurity. However, if the reader accepts it as a fictional piece of work its a nice storyline to follow, with a few comedic touches thrown in. I think its nice that a book written so long ago has endured the passing of the decades, to become immortalised forever thanks to Andrew Lloyd Webber.
