I bought this book after reading John’s ‘I, Maybot - The Rise and Fall’. Admittedly I’m only have way through Decline and Fail but from the first few pages I knew the rest would be brilliant. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It makes be laugh out load and helps me get through this current political mess. Thank you John. You’re keeping me sane.
A fabulous read that explains fully how taking politicians, especially government ministers, seriously is very much a high risk strategy for discerning citizens hoping to gain truth and enlightenment. The author is very observant, astute and unsparing in his critiques of the events that occur around parliament and beyond. He highlights the lies, waffle and shenanigans that are too often beyond parody whilst distilling it all with a lively humorous and often passionate truthfulness that far exceeds the drivel spewed out by TV pundits. Excellent value and a superb Xmas present for anyone looking for sanity and reason in current UK politics.
John Crace is a light in the dark in these strange days. I can recommend thus book as a humorous look at the madness & completely illogical political sphere, A must read for all fans of being able to laugh at ourselves & our political 'masters'
I am an elderly fan of John Crace. I thought "Brideshead Abbreviated" was brilliant. I think "I, Maybot" was priceless. "Decline and Fail" is less 'funny' -- largely because I fear it portends disaster. The election on Dec. 12 may guarantee that everyone in the UK gets coal on St. Nicholas Day. Buy this so you can laugh while you weep.
This gloriously funny and extremely timely book is a compilation of the very best of Craces work in the Grauniad. It's laugh out loud stuff even if like me you've read it before when it was first written. But it's not just funny. It's worryingly accurate. We live in strange times which, without Crace, we'd be almost completely lost! Essential reading to gain perspective on the loonies that extraordinarily populate our once even handed political landscape. And equally if not more important to preserve your sanity. Thank you John for helping me to keep mine.
Side splittingly funny, poignant, fearless, self effacing, and humble; John Crace's delicious and relentless satirical take on the daily events and people currently trying their best to wreck further havoc in these already crazy times is an absolute joy and haven for the mind and senses. This collection of his articles is a 'must have'. Allow yourself time to savour each beautifully constructed and sharp eyed piece.
Acerbic, irreverent, skewering our politicians and their seeming lack of integrity and thought , trying to reduce complex problems to simple slogans some wonderful, very snarky observations and I swear this book makes you laugh and swear in equal measure some stuff was familiar from the guardian but reading it as a diary of the last year you have to wonder is this the best the UK has to offer ?
A very funny, bitter, satirical take on Westminster politics in the second half of 2019. If you go to sleep to the rousing tunes of Vera Lynn, don't buy it. If you like to laugh at or despair at the hopelessness of politicians, this book is for you. Enjoy!
