An excellent book to what will be a great new series on the Hundred years War. A real gem of a novel introducing us to Thomas Blackstone, a very likable character.

An enjoyable read that keeps you wanting more. It's well written and doesn't get too bogged down in the history. It's all about the story. I shall miss Blackstone

An adventure character to rival Sharpe. Raised from the ranks to defy and defeat his enemies, both in battle and in life. Oh those nasty treacherous Frenchies!!

A good well paced thought out story.Although very similar to others in the genre there are enough twists and turns to make the story fresh and maintain interest.

My first David Gilman book. Fair play an all round good read bordering on excellent. Make sure you buy the the full three part version. Well worth the money !

Enjoyed the book, I would put this on a par with Bernard Cornwall's Grail series. Battle scenes are well written and the political machinations are intriguing.

This book describes in detail the savagery of ancient war and also what living in those time was all about - a far cry from central heating and mobile phones!

a very good read even if it was a bit obvious at times, I think the author took a lot of liberties with relationships but, again, it was a very good read
