Midnight is a good name for the author as I found myself reading on well past midnight to find out what was the next alcohol fuelled adventure of this group of cricket delinquents. The book is written in diary form about the exploits of the "Addis Army" following the England cricket team on tour in New Zealand and Australia. A knowledge of cricket is not required to read the book just a sense of fun, and a delight in the ridiculous. Some lovely characters spring to life from the pages of the book and I quickly became fond of Lofty and his foibles as well as the rest of the cast who are brought to life against a background of the landscape and brew houses of the antipodes.
Just finished version two. Again another enjoyable read. Michael Palin meets Alan Whicker with a bit of cricket thrown in. A raconteur if ever there was one. Midnight has a certain prose. His travels around NZ and Australia bring back many fond memories of times I have spent in these wonderful countries. A funny, evocative light hearted read. Highly recommended.
