A 'must read', especially if you travel to East Africa

What a fascinating piece of history, that I never knew anything about! I only put it on my Kindle because we were going to spend a few days in Zanzibar at the end of our safari in Tanzania, and I like to have something to read related to our trip, and wow! I found it so interesting I kept reading out 'fascinating facts' to my husband, and when we got to Zanzibar found the exhibition in Stone Town at the former slave market showed all sorts of interesting photos and documents that illustrated what I had just read - but nowhere near enough material about John Kirk, the man who succeeded where all others failed in closing down the East African slave trade. As soon as I came home I ordered a hard copy of the book as it is certainly one I shall recommend to other people, and will read again. When you go back and read the introductory anecdote, handed down by the author's father, it sends a shiver down your spine once you know more of what happened in that region only a few generations ago...
