Useful when travelling in the Balkans

Being a 'Lonely Planet' addict I always get an LP guide. However this is still the only type of LP that Albania features (also to be found in Central Europe). It's a great little guide if you are speeding through the country visiting only the main sites. If you are venturing further afield (like the mountains along the Greek border) there's no information. It's an amazing country so it's only a matter of time before it gets it's own book with a lot more detail about the fascinating newly discovered archaeological sites and remote villages.

the guide is helpful, gives a good background about each place and as all lonely planet it is the best option on travel guides. I just cannot understand why Slovenia is not included. It is so weird.. I think it is very bad to be obliged to buy an separate travel guide for a country that has so much in common with the balkan countries...

Used this book for a trip in August/September.

We went to every country in the book except Kosovo, but we also went to Slovenia which is stupidly missing from this book. We also used the in your pocket guides for the big cities to compliment the LP as it is a bit light in some areas. I prefer the style of LP.

Normal issues with some transport info being wrong, pubs not being as described etc, cant remember full examples though - sorry. With the exception of Albania to Ohrid - the furgon was good, border crossing at Ohrid was fine, but then nothing for miles and miles the other side, when apparently Sveti Naum should have been just 1km way - very lucky we caught a taxi.
