Lets start with the positives. The book is nicely produced, has some very nice photos and some of the place description are reasonably written and provide a decent sense of resort character. There are however two very serious issues with this book: - the resort selection is crazily US centric accounting for half the entries. I appreciate this is subjective and part of the fun of this type of book is expressing a view but Vermont has 3 entries to Switzerland's 1? The mighty Cannon Mountain gets an entry but to room for the Trois Valais? The cult resort of Mad River Glen makes it but La Grave does not? I have skied extensively on both side of the Atlantic and i can only assume the author wanted to appeal to a predominantly US audience many of whom may not have passports. - many of the recommendations are made by people that hardly appear unbiased. I agree you need a local to provide the right flavour but will the ambassador of skiing at Deer Valley really have no axe to grind? Did it not occur to the author that choosing someone who runs a property company in Telluride is quite likely to suggest Telluride?
In summary this reads like an editor giving a few people an opportunity to plug their resorts and left me decidedly disappointed.
