I just want to add another 5 star recommendation. I have a few of his books, and whilst there is some inevitable overlap, they are all informative. For any guitarist who gets the 'tone bug' this book will serve as a great guide-and probably save you from wasting money on unsuitable gear
A really good read made exceptional with the cd of reference sounds. The author successfully navigates the tricky misnomer of 'tone' and sidesteps the pitfalls of what is 'good' or 'bad' tone by simply illuminating what is available and how to get there.
This book could easily be ten times as long (as evidenced by the other titles in the series), but for a start up guide I wish I'd had a copy 15 years ago when the quest for tone bug struck.
