I bought this book after taking a course in writing articles for magazines. As soon as I actually get down to writing those articles, I have no doubt that this book will be invaluable. I have already marked the most interesting mags for my type of interests, so all that's missing is my own input. This is for the US and Canadian market, although of course writers can submit articles from any place around the world.

I liked buying this to refer to each year, but underused the paper edition. I am finding this useful in the Kindle format because it is always at hand, not a heavy tome on my shelf.

This is a book full of advice to writers. Today's world of publishing is complicated and difficult to approach.
This book gives you a way of reaching the publishers and making a success of your writing.

If you are interested in the US market this is the book to buy for contacts (editors, agents, trade publications, etc). The introductory articles are OK, not great. They cover topics such as writing for a magazine, blogs, freelancing, tax (US), etc. It has a couple of samples of query letters (how to do it and how not to do it). It is OK, nothing unique,
With regards to the contacts the choice is wide and covers most of the sectors you may be interested in. However, the business section is not that meaty considering it should cover the entire country.

Overall, recommended if you want to "break into" the US market (nowadays thanks to technology it is basically irrelevant where you are based) and need some info/contacts to get started. It has also some Canadian publications. I bought the kindle version and even if the book is +900 pages it is fairly easy to go from one section to the other. There is also a website with additional info (most of the info is not free and you have to subscribe $40 pa).

NB: this book does not cover the UK - it is US focused. You need to purchase the Writers Artist for the UK.
