A superb book for any fan of beachcombing, beach users and wanderers on the worlds beaches written in a clear style that introduces many interesting facts about the items that end up in the worlds oceans.
The interesing items that was up on many beaches in the Pacific and American coasts makes you want to move there!
The main gripe I had was in the internet references, in seeking more information some of the website addresses were unclear and in seeking further information on the Encyclopedia of Flotsam I have been unable to find any reference on the net unless the book has noever been translated into english?
This book opened up a whole new world that I did not know existed. It is funny, interesting and highly informative. It even provides a substantial list of books and websites about the subject. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the sea, the environment or in eccentric people, of whom many appear in this book.
Very quirky and definately written for an American audience however it is full of interesting information and anecdotes. The Author holds strong opinions which does not always engage the reader fully nevertheless if it is read as one person's take on the subject of what the sea washes up then I can recommend it.
