Left me a little underwhelmed
on 18 December 2010
There are some highlights in this book, but I think that it falls short of the standard set by similar contemporary books on workbenches.
The study of early tool chests is well researched, detailed and nicely illustrated, but the treatment of more modern boxes is inconsistent, lacking in breadth (no reference to any European style boxes) and often misses the depth of detail and analysis that made the treatment of early chests so effective. I was also disappointed at the inconsistency in some of the photography, with some pictures appearing to have been lifted directly from dated sources.
It will serve well as a useful reference for ideas, but it's not the authoritative book that it could have been.
