Excellent and clear vision of the civil engineering science from the famous professor and author Mario Salvatori, the man who teach that the statics are not only a calculating science but is also an art. A very short but wide presentation of statics in a clever gradual approach from the very basic elements of nature and the materials properties, to the complex human constructions of the present. Very easy, and comprehensive, but not innocent writing. A reading for everybody, not just for "beginning Engineers and Architects". The Art of Construction: Projects and Principles for Beginning Engineers and Architects (Ziggurat Book)
...and why they sometimes don't! This book is just brilliant for anyone of any age who wants to understand the stresses on buildings, and the strategies used to overcome them. I loved it! It explains the forces working on buildings, the strengths and weaknesses of different building materials, and the structural designs used to create durable and safe architecture. It also looks at buildings with design problems and how they can be improved. There are lots of simple activities for kids to see the principles in action, which would make great school projects, but this book is definitely not just for children. It could be interesting and useful for engineering, architecture, and building students, or simply anyone interested in buildings.
