A gripping tale of detection involving spiritualism, Arthur Conan Doyle and Super Recognisers. If you don't know much about those subjects, you will learn more in a surprising tale that runs in parallel streams between 1919 and today. Certainly not a straightforward detective story though it features two women detectives who are strong, believable central characters.
I loved this book. It was a day (and a bit) of pure escapism: compelling, entertaining and full of insights into what makes us all tick. A duel narrative, set in post-war and present-day London, it makes links between its two investigators in often unexpected ways, and McKervey brings her plot threads together in a very satisfying ending.
Loved this book ,McKervey's ability to bring history to life is exceptional I could see and smell London 1918 and 2018, her research is exceptional every detail accurate. She brings her characters to life with her descriptive prose so you have a clear picture of each character in mind, the different threads come together beautifully in the final chapter. Look forward to more from this talented author.
