Most of these stories have already been collected in the "Liaden Universe Companion" Volumes 1 and 2 published by SRM some years ago so if you you have these this new collection isn't exactly new. Maybe the second volume will have more new material.

If you haven't got those and you are a Liaden fan then these short tales fill in some of the interstices of that universe and you can never have too much of a good thing. It's great to know that Sharon and Steve have a publisher again.

I thought this was a set of new short stories set in the Liaden Universe but they are actually short stories previously published and sold by Amazon individually. This collection comprises
"To Cut an Edge"
"A Day at the Races"
"Where the Goddess sends"
"Pilot of Korval"
"Breath's Duty"
"The Wine of Memory"
"Certain Symmetry"
"Balance of Trade"
"A Choice of Weapons"
"Changeling"
"A Matter of Dreams"
"Phoenix"
"Naratha's Shadow"
"Heirloom"
Sweet Waters"
Whilst the stories in and of themselves are very good, it would have been nice to know what they were before I ended up paying for them twice

It is actually best to begin with the Dragon Variation, a three book combo, but I might be prejudiced as I began there. The three books set out important characters and then you want to know what happens to them and all the others you meet. Liaden Universe is a book of short stories filling many of the gaps in information. The authors do not make it simple to find out what, who and when but it is worth the effort!

Arrived promptly, illuminating read, fills in many gaps between the novels. Will be ordering more. Thanks.
