Disappointing. An intriguing setting but it seems to be more of an idea for a film than a well crafted novel.
The sex scenes are unnecessary and add nothing to the story
Contains some very glaring errors - such as Gaelic speaking peasants in bogs a few miles north of Dublin in 1939????
I rather suspect KF may have got the inspiration to write this after a visit to the Flying Boat Museum in Foynes as the plane is the star of the book and some factual errors concerning its construction match those on the replica at the FBM

This is not one of Follett,s best novels but the idea for the storyline is original and quite enjoyable if a little predictable.

The master of storytelling, this does not disappoint. Great use of historical events to spin and create characters telling the story from several voices seamlessly.

Although this tale holds one's attention pretty well the long romantic passages account for a disproportionate part of the text at the expense of the Boy's Own action.

Another great book by Ken Follett. Good story with a variety of believable characters, full of suspense. Couldn't put the book down
