Far too much rambling, unrelated anecdotes and painful attempts at humour
on 7 February 2016
I feel like I need another book to guide me through this book. Far too much rambling, unrelated anecdotes and painful attempts at humour. We were recommended this as undergraduates and it almost put me off statistics completely. Statistics can't really be made fun or funny, but they can be made (somewhat) simple and concise, which this book fails at. It take ages to get to the one or two pieces of information that you might need, by which time the author has obfuscated the entire topic by going into unnecessary depth.
On the other hand, some people have told me they loved this book and it got them through their degree, so fair enough. It seems to work for some but not others, so if you're lucky enough to grasp what this book does, then keep at it. If not, there are plenty of other options out there. Psychology Statistics for Dummies may not appeal, but I found it much more accessible and concise than this book.
