Grow! by Trevor Silvester is packed full of easy to use strategies that will help you better understand yourself as well as be a better and more resourceful parent to your child (ren). Trevor 's dry sense of humour will have you chuckling along while you learn about the importance of raising an ILOC (internal locus of control) child as opposed to an ELOC (external locus of control) child. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a parent or involved with children on a regular basis.
This book is so insightful for all parents and for anyone who interacts with children of all ages. It is well written and very easy to read. I read it on my flight too and from Iceland. It helps you understand who you are, why you do what you do and identifies how you interact with those around you. I am a parent of two boys and was happy to see how much we were already doing. I work a lot with teenagers and often the conflict comes from parents not fully understanding themselves and consequently their kids. If you are struggling, struggle no more. I guarantee you will have loads of light bulb moments and will become better equipped with dealing with not just your kids, but your partners, work colleagues, friends and family.
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time! It gives you a very good sense of perspective and how some of the stuff from your childhood can impact your child. That's probably very obvious but it's the subtle things that a parent, who is not in a state of "growth" but in a state of "protection", says or how they behave that can have an enormous impact on their child. I've been aware of this since having my daughter three years ago and this book explained it beautifully. Yet if you have an awareness of it, it doesn't need to be that way! Well worth a read.
A brilliant book that has given me some solid tools to be a better parent. It's very well-written and quite funny at times! I love Silvester's tone as he never patronises. I just finished reading and am now going to re-read for all the stuff I missed the first time. But i'm already changing the way I speak to my son and starting to value myself more as a parent. Highly recommended!!!
