This was a 're-visit not a first read. I visit Salems Lot every now and then, a bit like visiting an old friend who you are really comfortable with. You can sit back and just let it be. I know that seems odd to some people but to me that's how it is. I go back to a simpler time. A time when a young girl on school holiday, the summer before her seemed endless, visited her older sister in the town. She walked into a shop filled with long dead perfumes and potions to find a rack of paperbacks. She had enough money for two. She picked up Carrie because she had heard of the film. Then she saw a book with a plain black cover. You really couldn't see the face embossed on it clearly, just the red drop of blood. The back cover just giving the title Salems Lot. No trace of what the book was about but the drop of blood had her hooked. It wasn't until she got home that she realized that the same author had written both books and she had found a hero in Stephen King. So after various hatchbacks and paperbacks now I have my Kindle edition. And yes, my old friend is still here. Mr King I thank you for being my dark friend if only in your words.
