Firstly, the books is a preliminary introduction of statistics instead of a "complete" one. Maybe the author tried to make "Statistics" less scary and more concise, but he overkilled some very important ideas such as Normalization...

Secondly, there's a gap between the content. It's great to start illustrate statistical ideas with day-to-day examples. However, little effort has been put on the bridge between the daily example to statistic concepts - such as linear correlation coefficient, permutations...

The book is good for someone who want to get some statistic taste of daily life, but absolutely not for a serious self-teaching learner.

A very good introduction to statistics. Easy to follow and understand. However, the last chapter somewhat lets the book down. There is way too much material crammed into the last chapter - this could easily have been two, or possibly even three chapters!

The last chapter is also a lot easier to deal with if you have the printed, rather than Kindle, version of the book, as there is a need to constantly flick back to the Z value tables, and also look at earlier material. Unfortunately as you can't print out a page from a Kindle book, having to flick backwards and forwards was quite a pain. Also, the concepts in the last chapter are fairly subtle (at least for newbies), and I thought they deserved to be treated with as much care as earlier parts of the books. You will probably have to work through the last two chapters several times to feel the fog clear (at least I did).

On the whole an enjoyable and well put together book, although the last two chapters are a bit of a relentless slog!

If you know little about statistics this book will give you an introduction. If you are looking for a deeper or more detailed understanding, perhaps to complement A-level maths or similar then I suggest yo look elsewhere.

A book I first used in the 1980s, lost, and then re-discovered this year. The additions and editing have made this even more valuable. Strongly recommended as a starter before moving on to first degree level.

A very handy book for beginners or who feels rusty on the subject. Maybe it should have been shorter about spreadsheets. A chapter about other distributions and tests would have been great.
