As an experienced author (but new to writing fantasy) I found this book extremely helpful. It gives some general fiction writing tips (avoiding common pitfalls in dialogue, and the like) but most of the advice is specific for the genre. I liked, for example, how the author explained the differences between probability and plausibility, and why the storyline does not need to be probable but it has to be plausible. His comments about why readers want the 'goodies' to be rewarded and the 'baddies' to be punished also made me think. He also looks at some of the standard tricks of the trade - like the introduction of a 'wise old man' to explain proceedings - and their pitfalls (i.e. the wise old man explains too much too soon). Recommended if you are serious about writing a fantasy novel.

The book provided some pointers and tips, certainly worth having as it contained general information as well as scifi and fantasy hints. Thought provoking.
