One of my 2 favourite books for learning crochet. As is usually the case for Dorling Kindersley, Sally Harding's book is excellently illustrated, and it spans from absolute beginner up to advanced level. It has approximately 175 pages covering techniques and smaller items ranging from samples, fancy stitches, textures, openwork, filet stitch patterns, Jacquard and intarsia colour work, zigzags, embellishments, circular crochet (tubes), flat circles, Afghan squares, medallions, flower patterns, unusual yarns, and fastenings. A further 40 pages are dedicated to 20 larger projects, comprising: a Slouchy hat, Beanie hat, Baby's hat, Wrist warmers, Lacy scarf, Cold-weather scarf, Shawl, Waistcoat, Baby's booties, Baby's cardigan, Toy balls, Teddy bear, Bookmark, String bag, Clutch bag, Project basket, Round cushion, Chevron cushion, Baby's blanket, and a Patchwork blanket. 223 pages.

My 2 favourite books for learning crochet are:
This book: 223 Pages in total (smaller pages), 175 pages on Techniques & a few small projects, 40 pages for 20 larger projects.
and Crochet (Dk) 319 Pages in total (larger pages), 130 pages on Techniques & 26 small projects, 170 pages for 59 larger projects.

Recommend by my crochet teacher and other class members. I only gave four stars because much of the print is difficult to read as it is in grey, rather than black print and the font is small. Good diagrams and photos and helpful techniques.

This is by far the best crochet book I have in my vast collection. It is suitable for complete beginners and experienced crocheters alike. I wish I'd had this when I was first learning - it is well laid out and very easy to follow with plenty of diagrams as well as written instructions to follow. Now, it gives me a wonderful library of stitches, a quick reference for US terms/patterns and it has taught me how to read crochet patterns which come as charts - something not used when I was learning! It also inspires you to experiment. It is also incredibly good value for money. A real must have book.
