Simply amazing book that alters the way you view sleep!
on 9 June 2016
Every so often a book comes along that has a massive impact on my life. This is one such book. I had experienced a couple of sleepless nights during a stressful time, and rather than settling back into my routine after the stress had settled down, my mind kept worrying 'what if I don't sleep tonight?' 'what if my performance at work suffers, what if my partner and I can't enjoy our time together?' and on and on, as minds do when you're so desperate for them to be quiet. As a result, my bout of insomnia was prolonged and seemed to be taking over my enjoyment of life. I was due to travel abroad on business and nervous about my hectic schedule, dealing with other people in the industry and making a good impression when I was feeling this way so I sought out a book that could help me. Boy, did it help! I stopped trying/ fighting and just started accepting whatever came up (MUCH more challenging than it sounds!) and followed the advice in the book to be a lot more kind to myself and more aware of the tricks my mind plays on me. As a result, I care less about whether I get a good nights sleep or not, and ironically, my sleep has been far more peaceful as a result. My mind may continue to chatter but I am armed with compassion as opposed to anxiety and I may experience poor nights sometimes, but it's all part of the process, rather than something to be feared and to fight.
The book is simple and gently written by someone who knows exactly what he's talking about. I sincerely hope he reads these Amazon reviews as I would love him to know exactly how much he has helped people like me, and what a huge difference it makes to our daily functioning. If you are struggling with sleep difficulties, whether temporary or long-term, I would highly recommend this book as it's an approach that is pretty revolutionary and worlds away from the advice to drink herbal teas and have a warm bath before bed etc. It changes your perception towards sleep and, consquently, life in general, and in my experience is a lot more effective than a few herbal teas!
