Invaluable reference work. Just make sure you have access to a hedgerow.

As a newcomer to winemaking I really appreciated the straightforward recipes and instructions. I have had success with the wines I have tried so far and I will certainly be trying more of them in coming years if all goes well. The writer demystifies winemaking and sets it out in a series of steps. It turns out it is a fairly easy process with cleanliness being the main consideration along with access to the hedgerow ingredients. Who'd have thought?
I have also tried some of the liqueurs and infusions. Previously the only tipple I had tried making was sloe gin but I have now successfully made some of the other recipes. Again, the procedure is set out in simple steps.
I haven't tried any of the beer recipes: they all seem a bit of a faff requiring special equipment but there is plenty of fun to be had with the wine, liqueurs and infusions.
The book is written in a clear and humourous style, well-illustrated, hard-bound and it sits easily in the hand. Like all of the other River Cottage handbooks I have tried, it deals with it subject in a pragmatic and accessible way. Highly recommended for country-dwellers.
