The product arrived when promised, and the content is brilliant - including information required for the specification that is not available in the original text book. It is a must buy for people studying A2 Psychology A.

I used this book to revise (so far) for PSYA3 'Aggression', 'Eating Behaviour' and 'Cognitive Development' during study leave for exams at end of year 13.
Generally, the book is well organised and can be helpful for outlining and at the end of each section gives a page of IDAs that apply to that topic, so it certainly has its uses, however is missing things and lacks depth.

ADVANTAGES
The book is well organised so can give you a structure of revision.
The book is clear and provides headings over everything and is easy to read.
The book is to the point and omits any waffling so is easy to read through for revision purposes.
The book has some good AO1 and AO2 points which is sometimes best put simply as this book does (especially as in a question you only have to give 8 marks worth of AO1!) and it is always good to get information from different places and choose which you like.

DISADVANTAGES
The way psychology is taught, it may conflict with your class notes or what you've learnt in that it may provide different research studies, etc.
The book actually misses out some material which can come up in the exam. An example that applied to me was that in the 'Eating Behaviour' section, it says nothing at all on Explanations For Why Diets Succeed (which may come up as a full 8+16 mark question) - only information on Why Diets Fail, which I think is a big issue as some student may be more reliant on the book... which bring me to my next point...
This book is not a text book... Note well: "Revision Guide" should be taken quite literally!
Be warned.. although it is often good to get a range of information and choose which you like to use... some of the evaluation given in this book is not well-detailed enough and you need to use your brain to show that you use any research in a well-thought out Evaluation point which links back to what it means for the theory or if a methodological criticism, how it affects the meaningfulness of the research (or whatever the demands of the question)

OVERALL:
Although there is some to say in criticism of this book... it does a good job of being what it intends to be. If you are looking for a detailed text book with a lot of explanation and examples, or a single source to rely on for your entire revision plan for Psychology A2, then This is not for you.
If, however, you are looking for an extra source of well-organised, nicely summed-up points in a format suitable for revision and even to use to add to revision notes (mixing with other sources such as class notes), then this could be very helpful for you and you may benefit from this book a lot.

HAPPY REVISING! :)

If you are looking for a book with detail, explanations and examples - this book is not for you. Each area of the topic is covered in about 3/4 lines and doesn't provide the depth of knowledge needed for essays in the exam. I would NOT recommend this book.

I had to use several different books and revision guides. This one was very well organised and gave me the structure to start my revision. However, I had to use several others to get enough studies and examples for each topic.

While I can only speak for the sections I studied this book is extremely lacking in content. For example in relationships breakdown is never mentioned despite it being part of the specification! In all sections there is minimal AO2/AO3 evidence, in no way enough for a 24 mark question and I found myself have to supplement all revision notes made from this book. I would not recommend this book in less for brief overviews of the topics!!

This is a basic textbook which, with hindsight, was a mistake to purchase.
Apart from it's very general nature and lack of detail, there are some
features not made very clear by Nelson Thornes. I bought the book
to use for revising exam-style questions with the promise of sample
answers. The first thing to note is that many of the sample questions
in Sections 10,11, and 12 are not provided with sample answers on the basis that the sample questions are "open and involved".......although AQA itself has sample
answers and comments for some these of questions!!!
The second issue concerns the nature of the sample questions. You
might believe that when a series of sample questions in this book
are followed by 'AQA 2007' this refers to a past paper........this
is not necessarily the case and as Nelson Thornes puts it, it is merely
accredited to AQA in 2007 and is not a past paper!
Personally, I would give it a miss and use the Oxford University Press
Psychology A2 Exam Companion (3rd Edition) which can be purchased here on Amazon. A little "busy" in format but more detailed and it " does what it says on the tin."

As my teachers always said to me........."Could do much better" (Than
to buy this Nelson Thornes book.)

helps with studies, but not to be used as a textbook on its own as it lacks detail yet gets to the point if youve revised the material beforehand.
