This book offers an enhanced amount of information about the 20 birds of prey regularly encountered around the UK compared to normal bird identification books. There is a concluding section that offers information and illustrative photography of ‘Rare Visitors and Vagrants.’ The book’s great strength lies in the pages of interesting and detailed information of all of these birds plus supportive photography that far outclasses that to be found in more normal spotter guides.
There is still plenty of room for more normal, quick reference and evenly weighted spotter guides where this book could well be considered as an invaluable supplementary source of reference for the enthusiast as well as the more general observer. As such it makes an ideal companion to the RSPB ‘Seasbirds’ hardback survey which offers a similar quality throughout. The RSPB ‘Handbook of Scottish Birds’ makes an ideal general reference as an example of how different books offering different perspectives can support each other without being competitive.
The quality of the presentation is a great advantage and many purchasers may well find this book rising to the status of a 'coffee table' publication.
A book on birds of prey was requested by a 6 year old. Got him this and a birds of prey colouring book. Thought this might be a bit serious for a child but would be a book for life - he loves it and the colouring book was fun. Always good to temper learning with a bit of fun
I purchased this as a present for a family member who was going on a trip out for the day to visit and fly birds of prey so this book was gratefully received. The quality of the pictures is superb and the easy to read but very informative text is suitable for all and very well written. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in birds of prey. It really is, in the person I bought it for opinion, the best book of its type that they have seen. The book covers in depth its subject yet remains suitable for persons of all knowledge levels on this topic. Very pleased and happy with it and have nothing negative to say at all.
This book is fantastic! It tells you everything about all the different species of birds of prey in England and the pictures are high quality and are stunning. I would recommend this book to anyone with a fasination and love for birds of prey or people that would like to learn a little bit more about them and their troubles and hardships. Happy reading!
I fully concur with other reviewers - the book is pictorially stunning, the text providing a wealth of information. The book itself, its construction, is of the highest order. Buy it - you will not be disappointed.
