This is a series of ten books, all around a greater story, which concerns a special crystal which can create life. Through the series, the Doctor (the David Tennant variety) travels to various places, pursuing or being pursued by various agents. Most of the agents are, or work for, the Darksmiths, a mysterious race of beings. There are various combinations of companions too. In this book the companion is a robot in the shape of an 11 year old girl. It's amusing as sometimes she runs scared and sometimes she uses her robot powers. The story is a bit of a sideline to the greater story - the Darksmiths are trying to destroy evidence of their activities and have disabled a space station, which the occupants are trying to resurrect, assisted by some visiting aliens in their hive ship. You can probably guess what happens but it is told at a good pace, with good locations and likeable characters throughout.

Delivery spot on and the book itself is a very good read.
You do have to have read all the series though, to enjoy the ongoing story.
