This is the 4th and final book of the series , continuing and concluding the story set up in Volume 3. Holden Carver is a super-spy who feels no pain and can't really be harmed, but instead can inflict any harm that would have been done to him on others. He is under-cover in a criminal/terrorist organisation and appears to have been abandoned by his legitimate government organisation. What does he do ? How does he arrange things so that he can come in from the cold (as it were)? Can he trust his lover Miss Misery to help him get out ? Or is she still loyal to their criminal boss Tao ? Will Carver get a happy ending and does he even deserve one ? This is definitely an adult oriented story in terms of themes and content , told very much in the classic noir tradition of Raymond Chandler and the grubby spy stories of John Le Carre. The art is dark and shadowy and tonally complements the shades of moral grey that imbue the story to a tee. All in all this really is the perfect ending to a fantastic series.
Graphic spy/super-hero noir novels don't come better than this. Where Point Blank (the title given to the prequel of this series) meets The Spy Who Came In From The Cold by way of Notorious. Who is on who's side, and is that that the right side? What if super villains were organised by a criminal mastermind? What would the so-called good guys have to do to combat that? Expect bullets, blood and twisted love in a tale of deep double-cross and under cover confusion.
