I have just finished by Executive MBA programme with best schools in the world and came across this book written by Professor Birkinshaw and Professor Mark. I would be very much modest saying that this is a great summary book of a lot of models we covered during 20 months in the class. I see this work as a fantastic handbook for me in the future throughout my career as it combines all key notes needed to utilize valuable business models in management, marketing, strategy, entrepreneurship and finance. When I need, I will just take the book and refresh my memory.
What I also like about the book is that given analysis is really deep and will help you to avoid missing valuable insights and techniques while applying the model. As we know the devil is in details, so this book will help you to avoid these issues.
I would definitely recommend to anyone to get this book and read it. It does not matter whether you have got an MBA degree, just thinking about it or a professional, you will definitely benefit a lot from this fantastic book. Trust me, it worth reading!

Dr Julian Birkinshaw & Ken Math have synthesized the most important aspects of the key models being taught on the MBA. The book is a well crafted summary of key pointers that can be used in conjunction with the models and how these can be applied. I would recommend this as a must read for all but particularly executives and managers who have never been to business school before. Also a great read for prospective MBA students, helps you gain clarity in your decision making process and re-assures you of how much value a MBA can add to your professional development. Really like the way in which the author's explain each of the models in a well crated manner, followed by with techniques of using those models, and finally a practical tip and a pitfall to help you understand the each of the models in a real perspective. My favourite one being the Change management and Emotional Intelligence model. A great book extremely well structured and well researched.
be taken into account while into a book that truly lives up to its title. It's rare to find complicated concepts explained with such clarity. Highly recommended. (Ben Casnocha, author of My Start-Up Life)
This easy to read summary is an essential guide for any business leader, student or entrepreneur. Julian Birkinshaw and Ken Mark outline five models for five core business areas (Management, Marketing, Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Finance) giving examples of how to apply them as well as practical tips and suggestions for further reading. The book is very well written, I enjoyed reading it cover to cover, but the clear and organised lay out makes it easy to navigate so that a reader can dip in and out of the relevant models. I’d recommend it as a reference guide for business leaders, entrepreneurs and students; or as an introduction for anyone wanting to find out more about business.
This is a brilliant book! It summaries the key finance, strategy, marketing, management and innovation theories in one easy to refer to resource. It details not just the content and origins of the theory, but actually goes through how to use them.
The links to further reading/landmark articles are super helpful too, to enable further review of material and consolidation of learning.
Highly recommended for current, future MBA students; and those business leaders who want a clearer understanding of the key frameworks that will help them achieve at work!
