I usually go for the Rough Guides series but unfortunately their Toronto title hadn't been updated since 2009. This served my purpose well. It didn't bother me that there were no pictures as it is the information I needed. It was thorough and a constant companion during my 6 night stay. It was always informative and reliable. I wouldn't have wanted to do the trip without it.
This guide contains chapters on hotels, restaurants, sightseeing, shopping, bars/clubs, excursions out of Toronto (including Niagara Falls). The chapters split Toronto into sections and makes it easier when out in a certain part of the city. The history of the city is also mentioned, and helps give a deeper understanding of the area. this book contains a section at the back with all the information you will need when you are out and about in Toronto (things like how tax is not included when buying things, but is only added on at the till. How much tipping is expected, and more useful information tourists will need not to look out of place). There are many maps in this book and the places mentioned are dotted on these maps, making them easy to find.
