It's a beautiful thing to have. The brief description of the labour of love of its making in the first few pages is interesting and a pleasure to read. The atlas pages that face each dark-sky photograph are surprisingly useful in the field, although having another means of navigating the celestial sphere is also necessary, or at least advisable.

I bought this book on impulse as I was curious to see what it was like. I do not do much astronomical observing myself because of local light pollution, but I do have a few of the simpler star atlases.

What I like about this atlas is the fact that each area of the sky has a double page devoted to it, one page being a photograph of the night sky and the other page being a "negative" version of the same area with black stars on a white background, such as you would find in a star atlas, with coordinates and constellation outlines as well.

I think this book could be used in conjunction with a conventional star atlas to give the user a general idea of what the night sky actually looks like, which is something you cannot get from a typical star atlas.

I personally like the book as it is like having a dark night sky at your fingertips. I am not sure the book would be a lot of use as a primary star atlas as it does not give a great deal of information on the "atlas" pages, but as a photographic record of the whole sky and a addition to a conventional star atlas it is very good.

If you are an astrophotographer taking pictures with a good mount and using camera lenses this is a far easier atlas to use than a purely graphical one. It highlights the areas where you ae likely to see something interesting with your telescope as well. Very helpful.

really great maps of the stars, i struggle to understand normal star maps so having a good, clear photograph of the area makes things soooooo much easier.

Awesome achievement. At first look you might not appreciate it but trust me a great way to learn the sky when coupled with a telescope.

This is a good atlas which provides clear detail information about constellations although asterisms tend to be split over two pages. It would have been nice if they had included the star names.
