Common Sense Stuff
on 10 December 2012
Not being Jewish myself, but having a lot of respect for the faith I was intrigued by this book.
Most of it was common sense, though as with most (Middle Eastern originated) religious based books, it was a bit holier than thou, despite disclaimers in varous sections in the book confirming you don't need to be Jewish to follow its princples, but it couldn't help telling you that being a non-jew means you on the wrong footing to start with! Nevertheless, there are some pearls of wisdom departed in this book. My only critcism is the lack of balance, as what would have given the advice in this book some more weight is the realisation or admittance that other faiths have similar beliefs and wisdom was not invented by the Jewish texts. Nevetheless, this was probably a big ask when you look at the context of the book.
Overall, a good short read, with some enlightening advice and a nice brief window into a culture of which I personally know little about.
